Funeral to be held for slain museum guard

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — A funeral is being held Friday morning for the security guard who was shot and killed at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The viewing for 39-year-old Stephen T. Johns was scheduled to begin at Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, Md., at 9 a.m. The funeral service starts at 11 a.m.

The Holocaust museum won’t open until 3 p.m. to allow staff and security guards to attend the funeral. It will remain open until 7 p.m.

Authorities have charged 88-year-old white supremacist James von Brunn with first-degree murder in last week’s shooting at the Washington museum.

Johns, who lived in Temple Hills, Md., had worked at the museum for six years. He was married and had an 11-year-old son.
