France, Britain, Germany: Iran must engage

VIENNA — Britain, France and Germany are urging Iran to engage in “meaningful negotiations” aimed at achieving a comprehensive diplomatic solution to the international standoff over its nuclear program.

Iran insists the program is peaceful and aimed at generating electricity. Others contend it is covertly trying to build a bomb.

The three states told the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency that it is “inexcusable” that Iran continues to refuse to be transparent or cooperative in clarifying outstanding issues.

They said Wednesday that Iran’s current attitude “further reinforces doubts.” and urged Tehran to take the hand they say they have extended.
