Four Nigerians arrested with drugs in Punjab

October 4th, 2009 LUDHIANA - A bid to smuggle contraband and intoxicants into the central jail in Punjab's Ludhiana district was foiled and one man was arrested, officials said Sunday. According to police, a man was arrested late Saturday evening while he was trying to smuggle hashish in tins of desi ghee (clarified butter) and around 5,000 intoxicant tablets in a bag of rice.

September 25th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - Police Friday seized 7.8 kilograms of heroin, worth Rs.35 crore, from two places in Punjab and arrested three people, said the officials. In the first seizure, police of the border district of Gurdaspur, around 250 km from here, seized five kg of heroin and arrested two smugglers.

August 14th, 2009 NAWANSHAHR - Punjab Police claimed to have busted a drug racket with the arrest of three Punjab residents and a non-resident Indian (NRI) here Friday. Police also seized 1.8 kg of heroin from their possession.

August 1st, 2009 MOHALI - The vice principal of a private school near this Punjab town was arrested Saturday evening on the charges of molesting an 11-year-old student, police said. According to police, Ravinder Naudial, vice principal of the Bharat Model School at Nayagaon town, had molested the girl twice.

July 25th, 2009 VARANASI - A year after policemen from Punjab busted a 'Munnabhai' racket in the state Pre-Medical Test (PMT), a police team from Faridkot arrested an MBBS student of the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) medical college here for impersonating a candidate at the 2008 Punjab PMT examination. Manikant, a VII semester student at the BHU medical college, was nabbed by the Punjab police Friday on the basis of leads given by Delhi-based Sanjiv Kumar, who was stated to be the kingpin of the racket.

July 24th, 2009 FEROZPUR - An Indian national suspected of spying for Pakistan was arrested in Ferozepur district in Punjab. "Daljeet Singh, a local youth, used to visit Pakistan frequently on religious tours where he came in contact with Pakistani ISI agents Saeed and Rana," said Harminder Singh, an Inspector with the Punjab police' special cell.

June 9th, 2009 MUMBAI - A Punjab police official, who has won the Arjuna Award as wrestler, was arrested with three accomplices for allegedly carrying banned party drugs worth nearly Rs.20 crore (Rs.200 million), an official said Tuesday. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) carried out an operation yielding 25 kg of methamphetamine, worth around Rs.20 crore in the international market, the official said.

June 9th, 2009 NOIDA - Police in this suburb of the national capital Tuesday arrested three people for allegedly smuggling and selling drugs and seized nearly one kg of heroin from them. Virendra Kumar, Nawab and Naeem Alam were arrested from Labour Chowk near Khoda under the Sector 58 police station while they were about to deliver the drugs to a client, police said, adding one kg of heroin, valued at Rs.2 crores (Rs.20 million) in the international market, was recovered from them.

May 27th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Two Nigerians have been arrested here for cheating internet users by promising them lottery money and then taking "money transfer charges" from them, police said Wednesday. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police Tuesday arrested Earnest Ucheuna Ughabuga, 31, and Anthony Obinawa, 27, near the Batra cinema hall complex in Mukherjee Nagar in north Delhi.
