Four killed in Madhya Pradesh road accident

August 19th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least 16 people, including four children, were killed Wednesday when the passenger bus in which they were travelling veered off the road and fell into a gorge in northwest Pakistan, TV reports said. The accident occurred in the Mansehra area.

August 17th, 2009 BHOPAL - Two people were burnt alive when their car caught fire after hitting a tree in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Monday. The car going from Khargone to Khandwa caught fire when it hit a tree in Bhikangaon locality while negotiating a turn.

August 4th, 2009 BHOPAL - Three merchant navy personnel, who had come to Madhya Pradesh's Indore town to attend a marriage ceremony, died in a road accident in Bhanwarkuan area of the district, police said Tuesday. The dead included the bride's brother, Sameer.

July 24th, 2009 KATHMANDU - A pilgrimage to the revered Pashupatinath temple of Nepal turned into a death trap for a group of Indian pilgrims with three dying in an early morning road smash in western Nepal Friday. A bus, carrying mostly elderly Indian pilgrims, collided with another bus coming from the opposite direction in Gaidakot town in western Nepal's Nawalparasi district around 2.30 a.m., killing three passengers and injuring 20 more.

July 7th, 2009 LUCKNOW - At least five pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were killed and 12 seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district Tuesday morning, police said. The Marshall jeep carrying the pilgrims had a head-on collision with the truck near Lehangpur locality, Superintendent of Police (Rural) B.N.

June 26th, 2009 BHOPAL - Inter-state traffic between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat has been hit hard as the two states have detained each other's buses on various grounds. This has led to many bus operators cancelling their trips across the state border, officials said Friday.

June 1st, 2009 BHOPAL - At least 33 people were killed and eight others injured when their bus careened off a bridge and crashed into a dry river bed in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh Monday evening, police said. The bus, which had around 50 passengers, fell off the Rajghat bridge over Chambal river and crashed into the dry river bed.

June 1st, 2009 BHOPAL - At least 29 people were killed and seven injured when a bus careened off a bridge and crashed into a dry river bed in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Monday. Police have recovered the bodies of 29 passengers from the crash site on the Chambal river bed.

May 19th, 2009 BHOPAL - At least nine people, including seven children, were killed and 20 injured when the tractor trolley they were travelling in overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district, police said Tuesday. 'The accident took place late Monday in Nanhi Tekri locality when the driver lost balance while negotiating a turn and the tractor trolley overturned,' said an official of Bodera police station.

April 18th, 2009 BHOPAL - Eleven people including six women and three children were killed and five were injured after a jeep carrying them collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh Saturday, police said. The jeep collided with the truck coming from the opposite side on the Ujjain-Agar road, about 225 km from here.

February 10th, 2009 BHOPAL - At least six people were killed and 25 injured when the bus they were travelling in fell into a ditch in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, the police said Wednesday. The bus, carrying over 40 passengers, was plying between the holy town of Ujjain and Sidhi Tuesday night when the driver swerved to avoid a collision with a jeep coming from the opposite direction.

February 8th, 2009 BHOPAL - At least 12 people, including 10 of a family, were killed and two others injured when a car collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district, police said Monday. 'The accident occurred in the cantonment area of Guna when the Soni family from Gwalior was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony in Guna,' Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar told IANS.

February 2nd, 2009 BHOPAL - At least seven people were killed and three injured when a jeep in which they were travelling collided with a truck in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Tuesday. The jeep carrying a group of Ramayan Mandali (people who recite Ramayan at religious functions) collided head on with the truck coming from the opposite direction late Monday night.

January 1st, 2009 BHOPAL - At least six people, including a woman and her two children, were killed and two others injured when a sand-laden tractor-trolley in which they were traveling overturned in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh early Friday, the police said. 'The accident occurred near Sunehra village in Udaipura area (150 km from Raisen district headquarters).
