NEW DELHI - Ram Babu Sharma, the Congress legislator from north east Delhi’s Rohtas Nagar constituency and a former Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief, died early Wednesday at the Apollo Hospital here following a heart attack, officials said. He was 53.

Sharma died at 1 a.m. after suffering a heart attack, said the present DPCC president J.P. Aggarwal.

‘Ram Babu was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment at the Apollo hospital. However, he had a heart attack and passed away early this morning,’ Aggarwal told IANS.

‘His body will be brought to the DPCC office at 1 p.m. so that people can pay their tributes and then taken to the Nigambodh ghat for the last rites,’ he said.
