Forest officials release a tigress in Sunderban

September 2nd, 2009 KOLKATA - Two royal Bengal tigresses, which had strayed into a West Bengal village, were captured by forest officials on Tuesday. The tigresses, who had terrorized villagers over the last several weeks, were trapped in the Panchmakhani and Pirkhali forests of the Sunderban Delta area.

July 24th, 2009 AURANGABAD - The white tigress, which had escaped from its cage during the early Friday morning, has been recaptured after a three-hour long operation. The 18-acre zoo in the Siddharth Garden of Aurangabad is always choc-a-block with people.

July 6th, 2009 SUNDARBANS - Wildlife authorities released a tigress with animal tracking chip to keep an eye on the psychological behaviour of the big cat in Sundarbans forests in West Bengal. The seven-year old tigress, which had entered Satjelia village under Gosaba block of the Sundarbans delta a few days ago, was trapped on July 2.

July 5th, 2009 KRISHNAGIRI - Forest officials in Chennai have rescued an Indian pangolin after the rare anteater strayed outside the forest area. Residents of Natrampalayam village in Krishnagiri district of the state informed the forest officials after they saw a pangolin moving around near the forest area.

June 4th, 2009 BHOPAL - A three-year old tigress died at Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal. According to the veterinarian attached to the zoo, the tigress, 'Era' died late on Tuesday night when the intended vomit wrongly entered the lungs through the wind gullet and aggravated the lungs.

May 9th, 2009 RAIPUR - An 11-year-old white tigress was found dead in a zoo Saturday in Bhilai city of Chhattisgarh, an official said. The tigress was found dead in Maitri Bagh Zoo in Bhilai in Durg district, about 30 km west of capital Raipur.

April 28th, 2009 BHOPAL - A pair of white tigers have been transported to the Van Vihar National Park in Bhopal.ften termed as the pride of Bhopal, Van Vihar is home to a number of animals, including the white tiger, the panther and the lion. The tigers have come from the Nandankanan National Park of Orissa under an Animal Exchange Programme of Central Zoo Authority (CZA).

April 15th, 2009 PANAJI - The state forest department has started a probe into the reported death of a tiger in the forests of Sattari in North Goa, after a photograph of the animal's carcass was published in newspapers here Tuesday. Newspaper reports which accompanied the photograph said the photograph was taken with a mobile camera in February.

March 11th, 2009 BHOPAL - Having successfully shifted two tigresses to Panna Tiger Reserve recently, the Madhya Pradesh forest department now plans to move a tiger too there as the sanctuary's sole male tiger is untraceable, officials said. The only male tiger found during a Wildlife Institute of India (WII) survey using the camera trap method in December last year, is untraceable now, a forest department official said.

March 10th, 2009 BHOPAL - A tigress from the Kanha National Park was airlifted Monday to the Panna Tiger Reserve in eastern Madhya Pradesh so as to increase the feline numbers in the reserve. The tigress taken by an Indian Air Force helicopter to the reserve spread in an area of 542 sq km in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh Monday afternoon, forest officials said.

March 5th, 2009 BHOPAL - A tigress was shifted from Bandhavgarh to the Panna tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh by road Wednesday after the authorities failed to get an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter, an official said. March 2nd, 2009 BHOPAL - The first of the two tigresses to be shifted from Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh would be flown to the state's Panna Tiger Reserve in an Indian Air Force helicopter this week, officials said Monday. 'The stage is all set for the translocation of two tigresses, of which one would be shifted this week and another after a gap of five to six days, from Bandhavgarh to the state's Panna Tiger Reserve where perhaps no tigress has been sighted in the past one year,' said Madhya Pradesh's Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) H.S.

February 11th, 2009 RANCHI - Authorities at the Tata Steel Zoological Park in Jamshedpur are desperately looking for a match for nine-year-old Shanti, a tigress. The zoo authorities are concerned as Ben and Shyamali, the parents of Shanti have grown old and are unable to breed any more.

January 24th, 2009 BHOPAL - Van Vihar National Park in the Madhya Pradesh capital may soon get a pair of white tigers from the Nandankanan Zoo in Orissa after an approval from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), state forest minister said. But the national park will have to part with tigress Sara and a pair of jackals under an exchange programme with the Nandankanan Zoo.

January 6th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Two rare white tiger cubs were killed by their mother in Orissa's Nandankanan zoo, an official said Wednesday. The two-day-old cubs were found dead by zoo veterinarians Tuesday.
