September 15th, 2009 LUCKNOW - As many as 42 policemen were suspended here Tuesday for dereliction of duty, officials said. According to an official spokesman, these included two inspectors, two senior sub-inspectors, four sub-inspectors, eight head constables, and 26 constables.

August 13th, 2009 RAIPUR - About 15 policemen were suspended in Chhattisgarh after they refused to take part in anti-Maoist operations, the state police chief said here Thursday. "We have made groups of 100 policemen in insurgency-hit areas to launch anti-Maoist operations but 15 constables were reluctant to join the drive and were thus suspended," Director General of Police (DGP) Vishwaranjan told IANS.

July 8th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Three Uttar Pradesh policemen were suspended Wednesday for allegedly beating to death a 60-year-old Dalit man in their custody, an official said. Rajbal, a resident of the Shikar village in Muzaffarnagar district, died in the Chapaar police station Tuesday and his body was left outside the district hospital in Muzaffarnagar, some 350 km from Lucknow.

"Two inspectors and two constables of the Pakaulia police station in Basti have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty," acting superintendent of police Ajai Shanker Rai told IANS on telephone.

June 2nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Seven policemen have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh for laxity in investigating a case in which a Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death in the state's Azamgarh district, an official said Tuesday. "The policemen were placed under suspension today (Tuesday) following the directives issued by the state police chief Vikram Singh," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters.

May 27th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - Three Himachal Pradesh policemen were booked here Wednesday after an undertrial detainee gave them a slip on their return from a Delhi court. The undertrial, Sanjay, accused in a theft case, escaped from the custody of three policemen after he gave them poisonous substance to eat at a bus depot here, Anokh Singh, station house officer of Sector 36 police station, told IANS.

May 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - As many as 27 policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district have been suspended from service after being found guilty of extorting money, a police official said Friday. 'Six sub-inspectors and 21 constables were suspended after an inquiry found them guilty of extorting money from contractors, businessmen and shopkeepers,' Additional Superintendent of Police Mata Prasad told IANS on phone.

December 30th, 2008 LUCKNOW - Auraiya district superintendent of police Ekramul Haque was suspended and three policemen were dismissed for 'dereliction of duty' after an engineer was murdered last week allegedly by a ruling party legislator, a top Uttar Pradesh police official said here Wedensday. 'Haque has been suspended for dereliction of duty, while the services of Dibiyapur police station house officer (SHO) Hoshiar Singh and services of two gunners, Pal Singh and Gajraj Singh, provided to the legislator for personal security, have been terminated with immediate effect,' state Director General of Police Vikram Singh told a press conference.
