Five policemen killed in Baghdad bomb attack

October 7th, 2009 BAGHDAD - At least five people were killed and 15 others injured Wednesday in violence around Iraq, police told DPA. In the northern city of Mosul, two policemen were killed by a bomb as they patrolled the neighbourhood of al-Zahra.

October 5th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Two policemen were killed and four others injured in two separate attacks in the Iraqi capital Sunday, police said. In one incident, a bomb went off near a police vehicle on the al-Muttabag street in eastern Baghdad, killing a policeman and wounding four others.

September 12th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Five Iraqi policemen were killed in an attack by gunmen in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a security source said Saturday. The attack took place Friday night when a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire on a checkpoint in al-Riyad neighbourhood in western Kirkuk.

September 9th, 2009 BAGHDAD - At least 15 people, including three policemen, were killed and nine injured in separate bomb attacks in Iraq Wednesday, according to witnesses and security sources. Seven people were killed and two injured, from the same family, when a car bomb went off in Kirkuk, witnesses said.

June 29th, 2009 BAGHDAD - At least seven people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated explosives packed in his car in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul Monday, police said. The bomber, five policemen and a civilian bystander were among those killed in the blast as a police patrol passed through the predominantly Christian district of Bartalah, some 30 kilometres east of Mosul, police told the German Press Agency dpa.

June 26th, 2009 BAGHDAD - At least 17 people were killed and 45 injured Friday in a motorbike bomb explosion in central Baghdad, authorities said. The motorbike, packed with explosives, went off in a market that sells motorcycles in Bab al-Sheikh area.

June 22nd, 2009 BAGHDAD - Eight people were killed and 50 wounded in a car bomb blast and a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad Monday, an official said. At least five people were killed and some 20 others wounded when a booby-trapped car detonated in Baghdad central district in Karrada, the official said on condition of anonymity.

April 23rd, 2009 BAGHDAD - At least 28 people were killed and 50 injured in a suicide bomb attack on the Iraqi police in central Baghdad Thursday, the interior ministry said. A suicide bomber blew himself among a crowd of policemen gathered at a road in Elwiyah area to distribute aid to displaced families, the ministry said.

March 29th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Six people were killed and eight others injured Sunday in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq's southern city of Basra, a police source said. Two policemen and four civilians were killed in the blast targeted at a police patrol in Basra's Hamdan neighbourhood, the source said.

'An explosion struck a police patrol near the Andulus square in Baghdad's central district of Karrada, killing two civilians and wounding six people, including two policemen,' the source said.

The twin blasts in Baghdad followed an attack in the northern city of Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad.
