Fired Ark. guard denies death-row sex allegation

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas prison guard fired after an investigation into allegations that she had a romantic relationship with a death-row inmate says the prisoner never committed a sex act with her.

Danita Williams tells The Associated Press that she did pass crackers from a death-row inmate for soup from another prisoner. Williams says “the prison guards do that every day” — even though it’s a fireable offense inside the state’s prison system.

Williams was fired by prison officials July 7 after they investigated anonymous letters that claimed she had a relationship with the inmate. Prison spokeswoman Dina Tyler says the investigation never uncovered any evidence to substantiate the sex allegation, but that officials fired her over the crackers.
