Fernandes in Dharamsala to meet Dalai Lama

October 8th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - The decision of US President Obama to meet Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama after Obama's China visit has raised hopes amongst the Tibetan exiles living in India. Obama will not be meeting the Dalai Lama during his five-day trip to the US capital.

September 21st, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, who left here Monday for a 23-day visit to the US and Canada, won't be meeting US President Barack Obama, an aide said. "His Holiness Dalai Lama this (Monday) morning left his residence for a 23-day scheduled visit to the US and Canada," said Tenzin Taklha, joint secretary at the Dalai Lama's office here, ending speculation that the two leaders would meet.

September 17th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Thousands of devotees converged here to participate in the three-day discourse by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. Around 4,000 devotees, including mostly Buddhist and foreign tourists, attended the meeting.

September 16th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama gave sermons on Buddhism here on Tuesday. Dalai Lama began the three-day sermons on Buddhist teachings at the Main Tibetan Temple (Tsuglagkhang) at the request of a Korean group, which he referred to as 'our Korean Dharma friends'.

September 13th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - A US team will meet Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in this north Indian hill station Monday to finalise details of his proposed US visit and meeting with President Barack Obama next month, officials said Sunday. Three US officials, including White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, Sunday met Tibetan Prime Minister Samdhong Rinpoche and the Dalai Lama's special envoy Lodi Gyari to finalise the proposed meeting between the spiritual leader and Obama, the local officials said.

September 10th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has planned a visit to Arunachal Pradesh in the second week of November, an aide said Thursday. The Dalai Lama had to cancel his visit to the state last year after the Indian government refused to grant him permission.

August 19th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - A delegation of French senators will visit this headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile this month to meet Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. The delegation, headed by Jean Francois Humbert, senator from Franche Comte province, will arrive here Aug 30, a statement posted on the official web site of the Central Tibetan Administration said Wednesday.

June 10th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has rejected the offer of Samdhong Rinpoche, Tibetan prime minister-in-exile to step down from the post. Rinpoche while talking to reporters in Dharamsala, said that a proposal was submitted to advance the prime minister's election that was due in 2011, but it was disapproved.

March 12th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Hundreds of Tibetans, including monks, nuns and officials of the Tibetan Government-in-exile, on Wednesday attended an annual special prayer ceremony that marked the 16th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar year here. On the occasion, the Dalai Lama gave his annual spring speech at the main temple here.

January 19th, 2009 DHARAMSALA - Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Tuesday congratulated Barack Obama on his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States, Tibet's government-in-exile here said.
