Parmalat to appeal judge’s dismissal of suits

NEW YORK — Italian dairy giant Parmalat says it will appeal a federal judge’s ruling tossing out lawsuits seeking to hold Bank of America Corp. and auditing firm Grant Thornton International responsible in Parmalat’s collapse.

Parmalat issued a statement saying it believes the written ruling by U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan was erroneous and that it will appeal.

Kaplan on Friday tossed out lawsuits brought by the chief executive of the reorganized Parmalat against the financial institutions.

He said there was no evidence the companies knew about the massive $18 billion collapse in 2003 that remains Europe’s largest corporate bankruptcy.
