Ecuador police bust half-ton of processed cocaine

QUITO, Ecuador — Police in Ecuador say they have seized a half-ton of processed cocaine disguised as a shipment of fertilizer.

The nation’s anti-drug chief, Col. Joel Loaiza, says officers discovered 1,120 pounds (508 kilograms) of the drug stuffed in sacks inside a truck.

He says the vehicle was stopped on a highway from Ecuador’s southern border and is believed to have come from neighboring Peru.

Speaking to the broadcaster Teleamazonas on Tuesday, Loaiza said two Ecuadoreans were arrested.
