EU to OK Lufthansa bid for Austrian Airlines

BRUSSELS — The European Union’s antitrust chief says she will clear Lufthansa’s bid for Austrian Airlines.

EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said Friday that EU governments and the European Commission would still have to formally approve the takeover.

Lufthansa offered to make changes to the deal to soothe EU antitrust concerns that it could hike prices and reduce customer choice on some routes. Neither the airline or EU regulators have said what Lufthansa has promised.
