NEW DELHI - A young engineer and a teenaged girl were rushed to hospital after they were found unconscious in semi-nude condition in a car. The men was declared brought dead while the girl was recuperating, police said Saturday.

The police control room received a call late Friday that Dinesh Kumar, 23, and his 17-year-old friend were found in the garage of his Punjabi Colony house in Narela area by his father. Both were rushed to a city hospital where Dinesh, who worked with a construction company, was declared brought dead. The girl, a first-year graduate student, was stated to be recuperating at the hospital.

They knew each other for some time, as Dinesh had once stayed near her home in the same locality.

According to police sources, the girl in her police statement said they had entered the garage around 6 p.m. Friday and were in Dinesh’s new Hyundai Santro car after having switched on the air conditioner. Around 9.30 p.m. they felt suffocation and opened the doors but immediately fell unconscious.

Since the girl had not returned home, her father in the meanwhile registered a missing person complaint with police and a search was launched.

They got trapped inside the car with its AC on after the car ran out of petrol. The car must have been filled with poisonous gases resulting in Dinesh’s death, said a police officer adding that the post-mortem report was still awaited.
