Domestic car sales up nearly 26 percent

September 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - Two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Tuesday reported an 11 percent growth in August, totting up sales of 126,842 units as against 114,321 units sold in the corresponding month last year. "The company has thus achieved a cumulative sales growth of 5 percent for the period April to August 2009 with cumulative growth of 10 percent in domestic sales, TVS said in a statement.

September 1st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Hyundai Motor India, the countrys second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, Tuesday reported a growth of 10.7 percent in sales in August. The company sold 49,521 vehicle last month as against 44,710 units sold in August last year, it said in a statement.

August 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Passenger car major Hyundai Motor India Monday said its domestic sales jumped 54 percent to 23,193 units last month as against 15,066 units in July 2008. The company reported 6 percent rise in exports in July to 22,350 units from 21,086 vehicles in the year-ago period.

August 3rd, 2009 MUMBAI - July sales of auto major Tata Motors grew 18 percent to 48,054 vehicles as against 40,729 units sold in the year-ago period, the company said Monday. In a regulatory statement, it said domestic sales of both commercial and passenger vehicles grew 23 percent to 45,599 units as compared to the 37,033 units sold a year ago.

July 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - Automobile manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Wednesday said its tractor sales jumped 52 percent last month to 18,243 units from 12,008 units sold in the like period last year. The company's domestic sales went up from 11,054 tractors in June 2008 to 17,811 last month, while exports fell from 954 units to 432, it said in a statement.

May 28th, 2009 TOKYO - Japan's major automakers suffered production cuts in April amid declining sales caused by the global economic turmoil, the firms said Thursday. March 9th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Indian automobile manufacturers sold 1.04 million vehicles in Feburary, up 10.61 percent from 942,955 units sold in the same period last year, official data showed Monday. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said passenger vehicle sales (excluding exports) during the month of February were 145,019, up 15.02 percent from 126,077 vehicles sold in the same period last year, Total commercial vehicles (domestic) sold in the period under review were 31,069, down 31.68 percent from 45,478 units sold in the year-ago period.

February 1st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Auto major Hyundai Motor India Monday said its domestic sales in January were down 13.5 percent to 21,016 units from 24,301 units for the corresponding month last year. However, total sales including exports saw only a marginal dip of 1.3 percent to 37,216 units in the period under review from 37,700 units in the year-ago period.

February 1st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Two and three-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto Monday reported 34 percent year-on-year decline in its domestic sales in January. The company sold 132,348 two and three-wheelers last month, down from 192,193 units in January 2008.

December 31st, 2008 NEW DELHI - Maruti Suzuki Ltd, the country's largest passenger carmaker, Thursday reported 10 percent dip in its December sales. The company sold 56,293 vehicles last month as against 62,515 units in December 2007, an official statement said.
