NEW DELHI - Emphasising that the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai was the tipping point to revamp India’s security, Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday said “cross border terrorism” was still a a matter of deep concern as Pakistan terror groups like the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were still active.

“Cross border terrorism is a matter of deep concern. Terrorist groups including LeT and JeM persist in their endeavours to launch terror attacks. They continue to innovate new ways and means of deniability,” Chidambaram said here in his remarks while inaugurating a three-day conference of state police chiefs.

“They find support among disgruntled elements within India. Cells and modules within India lend an Indian character to these activities.”

Just a month back, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also warned at an internal security conclave that Pakistan based terror groups were actively planning attacks on India.

Chidambaram pointed out that through community policing and other innovative measures, the state police should thwart the designs of such groups.

“We must detect and deny any opportunity to our adversaries. Intelligence is the key. We were able to bust 12 terrorist modules in 2008 and, in the first half of the current year, we have been able to neutralise 13 modules,” he said.
