September 16th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A bandit wanted in over a dozen criminal cases, including murder, was Wednesday arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, police said. Chukki Yadav, who carried a reward of Rs.35,000 for his capture, was caught by the Special Task Force after a shootout.

September 10th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A criminal wanted in over a dozen criminal cases was shot dead by a police squad in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district Thursday, police said. Dharmendra Gaur alias Manish Tiwari was shot dead after a brief gun battle with the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jaunpur police on the outskirts of the city.

June 21st, 2009 NEW DELHI - An interstate wrestling champion, who allegedly worked as a sharpshooter for the notorious Krishan Pehlwan gang, was arrested here Sunday for his alleged involvement in a number of murder cases in Punjab and Haryana, police said. Rakesh Kumar alias Raka, a 22-year-old former interstate champion in the 84 kg freestyle wrestling, was wanted in several murder cases.

February 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A man wanted in more than 32 cases of extortion, kidnapping, attempt to murder, robbery and criminal intimidation was arrested here, the police said Friday. Khalil Ahmed, who was arrested Thursday, was demanding Rs.1 million as extortion from a businessman of Khari Baoli area in north Delhi, the police said.

February 9th, 2009 NEW DELHI - It will take 466 years to dispose all the criminal cases pending before the Delhi High Court if the present rate of disposal continues, according to a statistical analysis in the court's annual report. On March 31, 2008 there were 2,324 criminal appeals pending before the division benches, from which 214 appeals were disposed of, says the annual report for 2007-08, released Tuesday.
