Coroner: No foul play in death of Calif. financier

SANTA ANA, Calif. — The Orange County coroner’s office says foul play has been ruled out after an autopsy on indicted financier Danny Pang, but offered no other details on how he may have died.

Deputy Mitchell Segal says the autopsy was performed Sunday, but a cause of death would not be offered until toxicology tests are completed in two to three months.

Pang, who was accused by federal investigators of bilking international investors out of millions, died Saturday in a Newport Beach hospital a day after police and paramedics were called to his home.

The Securities and Exchange Commission had seized Pang’s assets and he was set to face trial next year for defrauding investors in what prosecutors called a Ponzi scheme.

Pang’s lawyers denied any wrongdoing.
