Cop wounded in guerrilla attack in Kashmir

November 10th, 2009 SRINAGAR - A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) guerrilla was Tuesday killed in an ongoing gunbattle in north Kashmir, according to a senior police officer. The police officer said that security forces early Tuesday morning surrounded Sheikhpora Rafiabad village in Baramulla district in north Kashmir on specific information about presence of a group of militants in the area.

September 24th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Two guerrilla commanders were gunned down by the security forces during an operation in south Kashmir Thursday, police said. A senior police officer said troops of 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) surrounded a forest area near Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on specific information about presence of a group of heavily armed guerrillas there.

August 21st, 2009 SRINAGAR - Police were Thursday looking for a top guerrilla commander who allegedly gave them a slip after a court ordered his release in a particular case and before he could be arrested on other charges pending against him. Nisar Ahmad alias Gazi Misbahuddin, chief commander (operations) of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group, was set free by a south Kashmir court Wednesday.

August 16th, 2009 SRINAGAR - A separatist guerrilla was killed in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir Pulwama district Sunday, police said. A joint patrol team of army troops and Special Operations Group of the state police challenged a group of militants in Lasipora village, 50 km from here, a police officer said.

July 21st, 2009 SRINAGAR - A police officer was killed and three of his junior colleagues were injured when suspected militants fired a rifle grenade at a police camp in a south Kashmir village Tuesday, an official said. Guerrillas fired one grenade at the camp of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police at Imam Sahib village in south Kashmir Shopian district, around 60 km from here.

July 21st, 2009 SRINAGAR - One police officer died and three of his colleagues were injured after suspected militants fired a rifle grenade at a special operation group (SOG) camp of the Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday. The SOG is a specially trained anti-terrorist unit of the Jammu and Kashmir.

July 13th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Security forces arrested two militants of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, who planned to blow up a dam in Kashmir. Mohammad Shafakat and Mohammad Adnan were arrested from the forests of Shamashabari range in Kupwara district, 120 km from Srinagar.

April 22nd, 2009 Blast kills 5 in Indian KashmirSRINAGAR, India — A roadside bomb set off by suspected separatist rebels ripped through a bus in a remote village in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least five people and wounding eight others, police said Wednesday. K. Rajendra, a top state police officer, said the homemade bomb exploded Tuesday near Marah, a mountainous village 105 miles (170 kilometers) southwest of Srinagar, the main city in Indian Kashmir.

April 20th, 2009 SRINAGAR - A paramilitary trooper and a separatist guerrilla were killed in a fierce gun battle in the Kashmir Valley Monday. A police spokesman said the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police jointly surrounded a house in the Trikulbal village near Palhallan Pattan on the Srinagar-Uri highway in Baramulla district.

April 20th, 2009 SRINAGAR - One separatist guerrilla was killed Monday in an early morning shootout in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. Police said the incident took place in north Kashmir's Trikulbal village, 45 km from here, when troops of 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force and special operations group of the state police surrounded a house in the village, acting on specific information about the presence of guerrillas inside.

April 19th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Suspected militants shot dead a former guerrilla of the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit in south Kashmir Sunday evening. Police here said unidentified attackers fired at Manzoor Ahmad Teli of south Kashmir town of Tral, 40 km from here.

March 26th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Two guerrillas, including a top militant of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), have been killed in two separate gunbattles in Jammu and Kashmir, the army said Thursday. A defence spokesperson said security personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the police's special operations group surrounded a forested place in Dooraswani area of Lolab, 110 km from here, in north Kashmir late Wednesday.

February 3rd, 2009 SRINAGAR - Four people were wounded when separatist guerrillas hurled a hand grenade inside a police station in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, police here said Wednesday. The explosion took place late Tuesday in the premises of a police station in Sumbal, 35 km from here.

January 13th, 2009 SRINAGAR - The founder of the Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said. Muhammad Ahsan Dar, one of the most senior guerrilla commanders, was arrested in Baramulla's Sumbal area following a tip-off about his presence, police said.

January 13th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Police Wednesday arrested a former chief commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen who had infiltrated from Pakistan to coordinate between various terrorist groups for major strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India. Ahsan Dar, one of the seniormost Kashmiri guerrilla commanders, was arrested in Baramulla's Sumbal area following a tip-off, a senior police officer said.
