Colo. boy dies after being trampled by rodeo bull

LONGMONT, Colo. — Authorities say a 12-year-old Colorado boy died after he was thrown by a bull at a rodeo.

The Boulder County coroner’s office says Richard Wayde Hamar of Yuma died Sunday while competing at the Longmont Elks Little Britches Rodeo. The event was for children ages 8 to 18.

The county sheriff’s office says the bull threw Richard to the ground and stomped on the boy’s chest and stomach.

The coroner’s office says Richard died after the left ventricle of his heart ruptured when the bull stomped on him.

The boy’s mother, Angie Hamar, says her son loved riding bulls and that no one should be blamed for his death. She says he was wearing a helmet and a vest during the competition.
