Despite protests from China, activist Rebiya Kadeer spoke before the "Peace, Democracy and Human Rights in Asia" conference organized by the Forum 2000 Foundation established by former Czech President Vaclav Havel.

September 10th, 2009 PRAGUE - China protested Thursday against a Prague visit by Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, and Uighur human rights activist Rebiya Kadeer. They arrived in the Czech capital to attend a conference on human rights and democracy in Asia.

September 1st, 2009 Train from Prague carries kids who escaped NazisPRAGUE — A vintage train carrying people who escaped the holocaust as children is steaming from Prague to London to mark the 70th anniversary of mass evacuations of children from Czechoslovakia. Sir Nicholas Winton, a Briton, arranged eight trains to carry 669 mostly Jewish children through Germany to Britain at the outbreak of World War II to prevent them from being sent to Nazi concentration camps.

August 5th, 2009 Rabbi Loew exhibition opens in PraguePRAGUE — An exhibition has opened at Prague Castle to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Rabbi Yehuda Loew, one of the greatest Jewish scholars and philosophers. Rabbi Loew, also known as the Maharal of Prague, lived from 1525 to 1609.

June 30th, 2009 PRAGUE - External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Tuesday announced that India and the European Union will hold the next India-EU summit in the national capital on November 6 to strengthen their partnership. Krishna announced the decision at the conclusion of the 20th India-EU Ministerial Troika meeting in Prague.

June 28th, 2009 Rains, flooding hit parts of Czech RepublicPRAGUE, — Heavy rains are flooding southern parts of the Czech Republic, with mudslides damaging houses and roads in the region. Rivers have been swelling in rural areas some 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Prague, the capital, Sunday but no casualties had been reported.

May 20th, 2009 PRAGUE - The European Union (EU) and China Wednesday hit deadlock at a summit in Prague which had been meant to highlight their reconciliation, as they failed to agree common language on any of the key points dividing them. As the two sides failed to bridge their differences on a number of contentious issues, including Myanmar, North Korea, Taiwan, climate change and trade liberalisation, China's Prime Minister Wen Jiabao called on the EU to expand 'practical cooperation'.

April 24th, 2009 Former KKK leader detained in PraguePRAGUE — Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke was detained by police in the Czech Republic on Friday on suspicion of denying the Holocaust. Police spokesman Jan Mikulovsky said the action was taken because Duke does that in his book "My Awakening," which is punishable by up to three years in Czech prisons.

April 11th, 2009 PATTAYA - Thai officials decided to cancel a summit of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Saturday after anti-government protesters broke into the summit venue at Pattaya, a resort town 100 km south of Bangkok. The Thai government said the summit between ASEAN members and six dialogue partners, including China, Japan and India, was postponed and would be held in about two months.

April 8th, 2009 BAGHDAD - US President Barack Obama left Baghdad after a brief, previously unannounced visit to Baghdad late Tuesday evening. Obama had spent some four hours in Baghdad, meeting with US forces while also holding talks with Iraqi leaders, including President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
