Chhattisgarh’s newly elected assembly to meet Jan 5

July 24th, 2009 LUCKNOW - All newly elected Congress MPs are set to converge here Saturday for an open house session to discuss strategies and thrash out the party's course of action to fight back the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh. Declared as an occasion to felicitate the 21 newly elected MPs, the meet will be presided over by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh, who had played a key role in putting the party back on track in Uttar Pradesh, where it had faded into oblivion after ruling for four long decades.

July 20th, 2009 RAIPUR - Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Monday said the state's per capita debt rose to Rs.5,995 last fiscal from Rs.4,596.67 in 2003-04. He told the state assembly that the per capita debt burden was Rs.4,881.51 in 2004-05 and went up to to Rs.5,370.61 in 2006-07.

June 11th, 2009 BHUBANESAR - Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Lal Bihari Himrika was Wednesday elected deputy speaker of the Orissa legislative assembly, official sources said. The two-time legislator from the state's impoverished Rayagada district was elected uncontested by a voice vote in the assembly as no other candidate had been fielded against him.

June 4th, 2009 HYDERABAD - Senior Congress legislator N Kiran Kumar Reddy was on Thursday unanimously elected as Speaker of the 13th Andhra Pradesh Assembly. Reddy's name was proposed by state Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Prajarajyam Chief Chiranjeevi, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and two other independents.

June 2nd, 2009 HYDERABAD - A newly-elected legislator of the ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday died following cardiac arrest, a day before he was to take oath as the member of the state legislative assembly. K. Revatipathi, who was elected from Tekkali seat in Srikakulam district in the April 16 election, died at a corporate hospital in Visakhapatnam, where he was admitted three days ago following cardiac arrest.

May 24th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Former Orissa minister Bhupinder Singh was Sunday unanimously elected leader of Congress party in the state assembly, party sources said. He was elected at a meeting of the newly elected Congress legislators in the presence of central cabinet minister and Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad and state Congress president K.P.
