Chhattisgarh school boy killed for Rs.2,000 ransom, locals protest
RAIPUR - Police Friday recovered the body of a 12-year-old boy who was kidnapped on way to school by a neighbour for a ransom of Rs.2,000. Hundreds of angry locals protested the boy’s death and demanded that police hand over the murderer to them.
Police arrested Kadar Khan, resident of Thanod village of Durg district, some 40 km from here. Khan confessed he had abducted Gopi, a student of Class 6, of the same village while he was on way to his school Thursday for Rs.2,000 ransom amount, but he killed the boy in the night.
Police recovered the body of the boy from Khan’s house. The body was found stuffed in a gunny bag with the head smashed.
News of the murder angered people in the area and hundreds of locals assembled at the deceased’s house Friday and raised slogans against a police team that visited the village. They demanded that the accused be handed over to the villagers for punishment.
