Several teens reported hurt in Cascades bus crash

BLEWETT PASS, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol says a bus carrying 12 teenage passengers and a driver has crashed in the Cascade Range, injuring several people.

Trooper Dave Phelps says the bus was carrying members of an Oregon youth group when it veered off U.S. 97 and rolled down an embankment Sunday afternoon.

Phelps says the teens, who range in age from 16 to 19, and the driver were taken to a hospital in Ellensburg, but only five or six required treatment. He says none of the injuries was life-threatening.

The crash occurred about one mile south of the summit on Blewett Pass. U.S. 97 runs north-south along the east slope of the Cascades.

The bus went off the northbound side of the highway, but Phelps says it’s not known whether it was headed north or south.
