September 22nd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly killed 45 security personnel in Waziristan, while 34 extremists have been killed across the region in the last 24 hours. According to a television report, helicopter gunships pounded military hideouts in South Waziristan killing at least 26 Taliban fighters besides injuring many others.

August 13th, 2009 KABUL - Three British soldiers serving in a NATO-led international military force were killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan, officials said Monday. The soldiers died Sunday during a military patrol in the Sangin district of volatile Helmand province, the British defence ministry said in a statement.

August 13th, 2009 WASHINGTON - US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke says Pakistan Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud's elimination last week was a "very big deal" in terms of security efforts in Pakistan. "The end of Baitullah Mehsud, as we all know, is a very big deal," he said Wednesday, citing reports of "disarray among his people, of other factions manoeuvring" following the apparent death of the Taliban leader in a missile strike.

July 12th, 2009 WASHINGTON - The United States has ruled out any negotiations with the Taliban until it lays down arms and severe all its ties with Al-Qaeda. When enquired about the statement of the Pakistan Army's spokesman, Major General Athar Abbas, that the Pakistan military can bring the Taliban to the discussion table with the United States, the US Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, said such a possibility can only occur when the Taliban 'repudiates al-Qaeda publicly'.

July 3rd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Taliban Friday claimed to have shot down a Pakistan Army helicopter in the country's lawless tribal region, a media report said. A spokesman for the Islamic militants told Sama television that the Taliban had also captured the pilot of the helicopter gunship.

June 22nd, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked the Taliban to leave the country, as Pakistan's military's offensive would not stop until every insurgent is eliminated from the nation's soil. The Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying, that Pakistan had long said 'no' to the Taliban, and now they must leave Pakistan, adding that the Taliban were neither Muslims nor Pakistanis.

June 20th, 2009 PESHAWAR - In yet another incident which proves that fissures in the Taliban are getting wider, the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud has rejected the calls of the Taliban's supreme leader Mullah Muhammad Omar Akhund for halting terror strikes in Pakistan. According to sources, Akhund had asked Mehsud to stop the terror acts in Pakistan and focus more on activities against the US led allied forces in Afghanistan.

May 31st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least 40 Taliban militants have been killed in a clash with security forces in northwestern Pakistan, according to a media report Sunday. The gun battle occurred in South Waziristan on the border with Afghanistan following an attack on a paramilitary camp Saturday night, the Dawn reported citing an intelligence source.

May 30th, 2009 LONDON - The extent to which Al-Qaeda has dangerously penetrated into Britain can be gauged from the fact that it no longer relies on sending British-born men to Pakistan for terror training, instead it is now recruiting 'ready made' terrorists from among the Taliban based in Pakistan. British investigators, who have been quizzing the 10 men arrested in the North West, believe that Al Qaeda has developed links with the Taliban which provide it trained militants who can carry out terror strikes at significant locations, The Telegraph reports.

Dubbed the 'Tartan Taliban', McLintock, was kept behind bars for three months for his alleged links with Al-Qaeda, but authorities failed to furnish any evidence in this regard.

April 27th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - The Taliban has threatened to take revenge from the villagers of the Buner region who had formed 'Lashkar' to prevent them advancing further in the region. Maulana Misbahuddin Malikpuri, a Taliban operative, said the outfit would seek revenge from the residents of Shalbandi and Sultanwus villages as they had dared to form 'Lashkar' against them.
