Barricaded man’s body found in burned SoCal home

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Officials have found a man’s body inside a mobile home in Southern California that burned after sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a restraining order and an eviction notice.

Ventura County sheriff’s officials say four deputies went to the Camarillo home Thursday afternoon to serve the court orders to 52-year-old David Boggs. He was a suspect in an elder abuse case involving his mother, who owned the home.

Sheriff’s Capt. Ross Bonfiglio says deputies heard a volley of gunshots inside after they knocked on the door. The man barricaded himself inside and soon white smoke started coming out of the vents. Two hours later flames engulfed the house about 60 miles west of downtown Los Angeles.

Officials don’t know how the fire started.
