BJP names 18 more candidates for Lok Sabha polls

September 21st, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) Monday announced its second list of 40 candidates for the Oct 13 assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The party also finalised the names of candidates for by-election to three seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, according to an official statement here.

April 13th, 2009 AGARTALA - At least eight of the total 19 candidates contesting the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura were undergraduates while two have criminal cases pending against them, the National Election Watch (NEW) said in a report Monday. There is just one woman candidate in Tripura that goes to the polls April 23.

March 22nd, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Archana Nayak, the only woman MP in Orissa's ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nayak, who has organised and led many women's movements in Orissa against dowry, violence against women and other such issues, said she quit the BJD as it would be unable to fight the Congress in the assembly and parliamentary polls after splitting with the BJP.

March 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday announced another list of 31 candidates for Maharashtra and Gujarat for upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party declared the names of 11 candidates for Maharashtra and 20 for Gujarat.

March 18th, 2009 HYDERABAD - The Congress Central Election Committee has finalised the names of candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, which include Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y.

March 17th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released names of seven candidates from Assam for the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, which is in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in the state, would contest eight seats while rest of the six seats would be fought by the AGP.

March 15th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released the names of four more candidates from Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections. On Friday, the BJP announced candidates for 46 more Lok Sabha seats from the states of Kerala, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab and Sikkim.

March 2nd, 2009 BANGALORE - The Congress in Karnataka Sunday finalised names of probable candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and sent the list to Delhi for the party central leadership's approval. The list contains names of two or three candidates for each of the 28 seats.
