BJP announces list for assembly by elections

September 19th, 2009 MUMBAI - The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance's seat sharing formula for the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections has been announced at a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday. The Shiv Sena will contest 169 of the 288 Assembly seats, while the BJP will contest from the other 119.

September 19th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) Saturday evening announced its list of candidates for the oct 13 assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh. In Maharashtra, where the party is going to contest 119 of the 288 total seats, with ally Shiv Sena contesting the rest, it announced a first list of 66 candidates.

September 19th, 2009 MUMBAI - Issuing its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday gave ticket to Poonam Mahajan, the daughter of the deceased BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan from Ghatkopar West area. In its first list of candidates for the Assembly elections, BJP announced the names of 66 candidates of which 23 are sitting MLAs who have been given the tickets.

August 23rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Congress party on Sunday announced the list of seven candidates for the upcoming State Assembly by-elections in Bihar. The party has decided not to get into any alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) during the by-elections and decided to go it alone.

The Congress has announced candidates for 16 of the state's 21 Lok Sabha seats and 142 of the 147 assembly seats, the party sources said.

March 25th, 2009 HYDERABAD - A day after finalising seat sharing agreement with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Wednesday released the first list of 27 candidates for the next month's assembly elections. The main opposition party has retained majority of the sitting legislators or those who lost in 2004 elections.

March 25th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Wednesday said it will field candidates from one Lok Sabha and 10 assembly constituencies in Orissa after seat-sharing talks with the state's ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) apparently failed. NCP state president Prasanta Nanda, however, said their list of candidates has the BJD's consent, even as party denied the claim.

March 22nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) on Saturday released its second list of 16 candidates for Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep for general elections. The party will field 14 candidates in Kerala while one candidate each in Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

The names were finalised at a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee held at the party headquarters with party president Rajnath Singh in chair.

January 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday released a list of 23 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, taking the number of its contestants announced so far to 71. The names were finalised at a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee held at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of its president Rajnath Singh.
