August 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Employees of India's flagship carrier Air India are on a three-day hunger strike from today over delay in payment of their salaries. "Over 20,000 members of the Aviation Industry Employees Guild (AIEG) and the Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU) and some other unions from across the nation have decided to go on hunger strike from today, as the management is rigid over payment of our salaries," said J B Kadian, general secretary, ACEU.

August 6th, 2009 NEW DELHI / KOLKATA - Bank employees in the national capital took to streets on Thursday following the nationwide strike, which was announced after talks between the United Forum of Bank Union's (UFBU) and the Indian Bank Association (IBA) had failed on Tuesday. About one million employees of country's dominating public sector banks along with some private and foreign banks staff are on a two-day strike demanding the government to increase their wages by 17 per cent, as agreed to between bank unions and IBA earlier.

June 11th, 2009 AHMEDABAD - In a broad daylight heist, four armed men looted 6.1 million rupees from two nationalised bank employees while they were carrying the money to their bank's headquarters. The incident occurred around 11 am on Thursday when two employees-Rajendrabhai Patel and Parin Shah-were transporting the cash in two large bags in a car from the Bank's branch in Parimal Garden to the bank's headquarters at Kalupur.

'The government is firm on not paying them salaries to ensure its policy of 'no work no pay',' an official of the state finance department said, adding that a letter to this effect had already been issued.
