Australians appalled by their own Fritzl case

October 8th, 2009 LONDON - A 68-year-old man, from Harlow, in Essex, was jailed for 12 years yesterday after a court heard he had sex with his daughter over a 33-year period and fathered two of her children. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was branded depraved and wicked by a judge at Chelmsford Crown Court after pleading guilty to incest, rape and indecent assault.

September 24th, 2009 MELBOURNE - Yet another Josef Fritzl-like case has been reported in Australia, with a man in his 50s being charged with incest and a string a sexual assaults against children over the past 40 years. Victoria Police have revealed that the Gippsland man faces 27 charges, including seven counts of carnal knowledge of a child under 10, three counts of sexual penetration of a child under 10 and one count of incest.

September 17th, 2009 MELBOURNE - Lisa Neville, Australian Community Services Minister, has come under fire after huge number of bungling in the child protection services emerged, including a sex horror case of a man accused of fathering four children with his daughter. Neville is expected to be faced with calls to resign after revelations of failed attempts by Victoria's Department of Human Services (DHS) to conduct proper background checks on a known sexual predator before letting a child into his care.

September 8th, 2009 LONDON - It has emerged that American Fritzl, Phillip Garrido, had brainwashed his wife Nancy and also alienated her from her own family. Nancy's brother, Pete Bocanegra, claims that it has been nearly 30 years since he spoke to his sister, who along with Garrido, has been charged with kidnapping, raping and keeping Jaycee Lee Dugard captive for 18 years.

September 1st, 2009 LONDON - "American Fritzl" Philip Garrido and his wife Nancy, the alleged abductors of Jaycee Lee Dugard, are said to have been placed on a suicide watch in prison. The couple have been kept in solitary confinement for their own protection, amid fears that other inmates could try to attack them, reports the Telegraph.

August 31st, 2009 LONDON - A woman who was raped by 'American Fritzl' Phillip Garrido 33 years ago says she is relieved that the 'monster' is behind bars again. Katherine Callaway, 58, had an encounter with Garrido in 1976 when he handcuffed and gagged her, reports the Sun.

August 29th, 2009 LONDON - It has been revealed that cops missed a chance to rescue kidnapped victim Jaycee Lee Dugard from Phillip Garrido, nicknamed the "American Fritzl". Garrido, 58, and his wife Nancy, 54, had held Dugard, 29, against her will for 18 years, and the fiend even fathered two daughters, now aged 11 and 15, with her, reports the Sun.

July 20th, 2009 LONDON - A poll released on Monday by the Royal Commonwealth Society in London has found that more than three-quarters of Australians were far less attached to their membership of the Commonwealth than other developing countries, including India. Royal Commonwealth Society took the survey, after reviewing more than 6000 people who had gathered to mark the Commonwealth's 60th anniversary from seven Commonwealth member countries - Australia, Canada, Great Britain, India, Jamaica, Malaysia and South Africa.

July 7th, 2009 LONDON - In a case quite reminiscent of Dungeon dad Josef Fritzl, a South African man has been accused of keeping his own daughter as a sex slave after she visited him for the first time. The man, known only as 'Heinz', allegedly raped his 18-year-old daughter, called 'Sandra', up to three times a day over a period of two months.

May 11th, 2009 LONDON - In what is quite reminiscent of Dungeon dad Josef Fritzl, Argentine police have arrested a man, dubbed 'Monster of Mendoza', for fathering seven children by his daughter. According to reports, Armando Lucero, who hails from the wine-producing Mendoza region, began raping his daughter when she was eight.

March 29th, 2009 SYDNEY - After Austria and Italy, another man has been arrested for allegedly fathering eight children with his daughter. Arcedio Alvarez, a Colombian man, is said to have abused his daughter, now in her thirties, since she was less than 10 years old.
