ASNE adds 2 online journalism leaders to board

RESTON, Va. — The American Society of News Editors has named top online editors from Politico and the Dallas Morning News to its board of directors.

The organization, which dropped the word “newspaper” from its name earlier this year, said the appointments were made as part of the group’s efforts to expand beyond its print newspaper roots.

One of the new directors is John Harris, editor-in-chief and one of the founders of Politico, which publishes The Politico newspaper in Washington and runs the Politico.com Web site.

Harris worked for The Washington Post for 21 years. His beats included local, state and and national politics. He covered the Clinton White House from 1995 to 2001.

Also joining the board is Anthony Moor, deputy managing editor for interactive content for the Dallas Morning News. His responsibilities include the newspaper’s online strategy.

He’s credited with helping drive 70 percent more traffic to the paper’s Web site, dallasnews.com, in his first year on the job. He previously worked as an editor at OrlandoSentinel.com, was new media editor at the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle, and has been an investigative reporter.

The American Society of News Editors, founded in 1922, is a nonprofit focused on journalism issues. The group says it appointed the new directors under special provisions adopted earlier this year to expand the group’s reach in online areas.
