Apollo Hospitals shelves plans to buy Wockhardt units

September 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - Two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Tuesday reported an 11 percent growth in August, totting up sales of 126,842 units as against 114,321 units sold in the corresponding month last year. "The company has thus achieved a cumulative sales growth of 5 percent for the period April to August 2009 with cumulative growth of 10 percent in domestic sales, TVS said in a statement.

August 24th, 2009 Indo-ASIAN NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI - Super-speciality hospital group Fortis has acquired 10 hospitals from Wockhardt for Rs.909 crore, the company said Monday. With this acquisition, the Delhi-based Fortis will add 1,902 beds, including 534 beds in the two ongoing greenfield projects of Wockhardt in Bangalore and Kolkata, taking its total capacity to 5,202 beds in 38 hospitals.

August 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - India's second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto Monday said its sales dipped 0.7 percent last month to 168,731 units as compared to 169,971 units sold in July last year. The company said in a statement that its motorcycle sales dipped 0.3 percent to 168,163 units in July from 168,836 units sold in the like period last year.

May 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Indian tyremaker Apollo Tyres Monday said it has successfully concluded the acquisition of the bankrupt Dutch company, Vredestein Banden BV, for an undisclosed amount. Vredestein Banden manufactures premium passenger car tyres and was a 100 percent arm of Russia's largest tyremaker Amtel-Vredestein.

April 1st, 2009 MUMBAI - The stock of healthcare major Wockhardt fell 20 percent on the Bombay Stock Exchange following reports that the company would be referred to the corporate debt restructuring (CDR) mechanism for financial restructuring of its debts. The scrip, which opened at Rs.70.10, much lower than its Rs.85.50 close Tuesday, slipped soon to Rs.68.45.

April 1st, 2009 CHENNAI - The city-based TVS Motor Co logged 4 percent growth in two-wheeler sales last month, the company said in a statement Wednesday. TVS sold 121,988 units in March as against 117,045 units sold in the corresponding period of the previous year, it added.

March 10th, 2009 MUMBAI - Diversified company Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd Monday said it has completed the acquisition of 76 percent stake in the retail broking firm of the Apollo Hospitals Group. The group bought 56 percent in Apollo Sindhoori Capital Investment from the promoters and another 20 percent through an open offer.

February 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - India's state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have put on hold their plans to invest in ethanol projects in Brazil due to the current economic slowdown, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said here Tuesday. The oil marketing companies - Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum Corp and Hindustan Petroleum Corp - had explored the possibilities of acquiring sugarcane farms and setting up ethanol manufacturing units in Brazil, Deora said while answering a question in the Rajya Sabha.
