DHAKA - Another militant, who is sought by India and is working for Pakistan based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, has been arrested by Bangladesh Police.

Maulana Mohammad Monsur Ali alias Maulana Habibullah was arrested on Monday night by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, after information another arrested Indian militant, Mufti Obaidullah.

The police said that both the arrested militants are Indian nationals. Habibullah is known to be an arms and explosives expert of the LeT, while Obaidullah is an organiser, they added.

The police paraded Habibullah before the media on Tuesday at the DMP headquarters.

Detective Branch Deputy Commissioner Manirul Islam said Habibullah was Obaidullah’s superior in the miltant organisation, and added that Habibullah entered Bangladesh by bribing guards on the Indian side of the border.

He said Habibullah also obtained a National ID Card in Bangladesh and had cast his vote in the December 2008 parliamentary elections.

“He has links to madrasas in Bangladesh. He also had connections with the top HuJI leaders Maulana Abdur Rouf and Maulana Ali Ahmed,” bdnews24.com quoted Islam, as saying.

Obaidullah, Habibullah had trained and fought in the Afghanistan war against Russia and have links with the Asif Reza Commando Force as well as Lashkar-e-Taiba, said islam.

Habibullah told reporters he was involved with the commando force, but not with the Kashmiri militant group.

He said he knows a leaders of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) from his time in Afghanistan.

The Bangladesh police arrested Obaidullah, organiser of LeT operations in Bangladesh, in Dhaka’s old area on Thursday.

Obaidullah informed police authorities that he hailed from Howrah district in West Bengal. After coming to Bangladesh, Obaidullah taught in as many as five madrasas.

Obaidullah took part in the Afghan war against the Soviets and, after returning home, maintained close relations with the militants of Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. He confessed that he had started working against Hindu outfits such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Shiv Sena before fleeing India.

The LeT organiser crossed to Bangladesh after he was chased by Indian authorities and found sanctuary in madrasas. The Bangladesh police registered a case against him for illegally entering the country. Interestingly, Obaidullah has been hiding in the country for the last 14 years. (ANI)
