July 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - The Chhattisgarh police have recovered over 24,000 live cartridges and 151 illegal arms in the past seven months, the state assembly was informed Tuesday. In reply to a question, state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar told the assembly that police recovered 24,700 live cartridges, seized 151 arms besides 47 grenades and 49 bombs in 131 different cases in the state between December 2008 and June 28 this year.

February 13th, 2009 SHIMLA - Four people were arrested from a Himachal Pradesh village near here and eight leopard skins were seized from them, police said Saturday. Police sources said the accused belonged to Shimla district and they purchased the pelts from a villager.

January 12th, 2009 HANOI - Vietnamese police have seized two tonnes of rare animal remains including bear legs and tiger skins from a store in Hanoi, an official said Tuesday. Nguyen Viet Tien, deputy head of Hanoi's environmental police, said the animal parts were found at a store in the capital's Dong Da district.

January 8th, 2009 BHOPAL - As many as 43 people were sentenced in Madhya Pradesh's Katni forest division for poaching and smuggling of animal parts, official said Friday. Minister of State for Forests (independent charge) Rajendra Shukla said in an official statement that of these 43 people, 11 were sentenced to three-year imprisonment, 18 for two years and remaining 14 for one year.
