October 19th, 2009 KOHIMA - A three-day long Northeast Youth Festival was recently held in Nagaland, which kicked off with a glittering ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. The event themed 'Youth and Creativity' was aimed at the youth of the country, especially those belonging to the northeast in order to make them get along with different cultures.

September 17th, 2009 DAMPARA - Kantha Singh, a former motor mechanic, plays good samaritan for 42 orphans from tribal communities and runs an orphanage by begging for alms at Dampara village in Jharkhand. Started in 2007, the orphanage had just 15 children.

September 13th, 2009 BHUBANESHWAR - Twenty-five minor girls were rescued from an orphanage by police here on Saturday night during a raid. The Orissa police, later, claimed to have busted a group involved in sexual exploitation of the rescued girls.

September 7th, 2009 KOHIMA - With an aim to promote the inherent musical talent of Nagaland, a musical competition was organized in the State. The theme of the competition was 'Discovering talents to a higher level' and was organized by Pheto Music Association, an initiative by music enthusiast Kasheto Kiba.

July 28th, 2009 KOHIMA - Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat, who has been entrusted additional charge of Nagaland by President Pratibha Patil, will be sworn-in today. The ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhavan.

July 25th, 2009 IMPHAL - Gurbachan Jagat, whom the President of India, Pratibha Patil, appointed to discharge functions as the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his responsibilities as Manipur Governor, would take oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday (July 28). Abhijit Sinha, Secretary to the Governor of Nagaland informed media in an official statement on Saturday.

July 22nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - As per a press press communique issued by the President of India on Wednesday, Gurbachan Jagat, currently the Governor of Manipur, has been appointed to ischarge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Nagaland are made. Jagat became a member of the Indian Police Service in 1966.

June 29th, 2009 KOHIMA - In a historic meet, Chakhesang and Sumi Naga tribes recently came together and took a vow to work together to promote peace, unity and strengthen the bond between the two tribes in Nagaland. The occasion was day-long 'Chakhesang-Sumi Brotherhood Meet' held at Chetheba Town of Phek district in Nagaland during which the two tribes agreed to promote brotherhood between both of them.

May 10th, 2009 GAYA - As several children in cosmopolitan cities celebrated the Mother's Day by greeting their mothers or giving some gift to them on Sunday, children at an orphanage in Bodh Gaya city in Bihar missed their mothers. About 250 children, who are being brought up at an orphanage in Bodh Gaya, remembered their mothers' affection on Sunday, the Mother's Day.

April 14th, 2009 KOHIMA - The Congress and the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) are locked in a direct fight for the lone Lok Sabha seat from Nagaland, elections for which will be held Thursday in the first phase of the general elections. Electioneering in the mountainous northeastern state is at its peak with both the parties harping on the pet theme of resolving the decades-long Naga insurgency problem and integrating Naga-inhabited areas in the northeast.

March 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said it will support the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) candidate in the northeast state, as the party declared its candidates for 29 Lok Sabha seats in six states. The party announced candidates for four seats in Uttar Pradesh, nine in Maharashtra, seven in Andhra Pradesh, three in Orissa, five in Kerala and one in Manipur.

February 23rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - More than the jigs of Sonam Kapoor in the popular song 'Masakali' from 'Delhi-6', it was the episode of communal harmony that touched the heart of 10-year-old Babita, an orphan, who enjoyed the movie at a special screening here Sunday. 'I loved the scene where both communities (Hindus and Muslims) get united.

January 16th, 2009 BANGALORE - Meet Sabina Solomon, a woman in her early 40s, who has been single-handedly taking care of 80 children for more than a year at an orphanage here. They fondly call her 'amma', mother in Kannada.
