Abu Dhabi Airport registers strong passenger growth

October 12th, 2009 ABU DHABI - The infrastructure sector in the Gulf region will grow significantly in the next five years as several countries in the region are planning to invest billions of dollars in the sector, WAM news agency reported. A key driver of growth will be the increase of funding in infrastructure projects, it said.

September 23rd, 2009 ABU DHABI - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital will host the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Sep 28-Oct 2, WAM news agency reported Wednesday. Official delegations from 112 countries, which have signed the Agreement on Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, and over 50 representatives from regional organisations and non governmental organisations will take part in the event.

September 17th, 2009 ABU DHABI - The capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) accounted for 23 percent of all advertised jobs in the Gulf region in the first six months of this year, a study has showed. Abu Dhabi's share of jobs advertised in the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries grew by nine percent this year compared to the same period in 2008.

September 4th, 2009 ABU DHABI - Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has expanded its US operations by adding one more city to its network, WAM news agency reported Friday. The airline has launched flights from its Abu Dhabi home-base to the US city of Chicago.

September 1st, 2009 ABU DHABI - More than 350 nominations from over 60 countries have been received for the Zayed Future Energy Prize awarded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), WAM news agency reported Tuesday. The Zayed Future Energy Prize selection committee and jury will review the entries and the prize will be awarded Jan 19, 2010 during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

August 31st, 2009 NEW DELHI - India registered a 6.1 percent economic growth during the first quarter of this fiscal (April-June), even as the manufacturing sector's output expanded by a relatively lower rate of 3.4 percent, official statistics said Monday. The farm sector registered a 2.4 percent growth during the period under review, while services industries logged the maximum expansion of over 8 percent, showed the data on national income released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).

August 19th, 2009 DUBAI - The Dubai International Airport saw an increase of passenger traffic in July, registering a 12.6 percent growth, the highest since May 2008, WAM news agency reported Wednesday. It is also the second consecutive month of double-digit growth in passenger traffic this year following the 10.3 percent rise in June.

August 1st, 2009 ABU DHABI - A baby crocodile was seized from an Egypt Air flight after its cabin crew alerted the airport officials when the plane landed here, WAM news agency reported Saturday. The flight was from Cairo to the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) capital.

July 19th, 2009 ABU DHABI - India's Essar Group is exploring possibilities for investing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Dhabi Group's telecom business in Africa, the WAM news agency reported Sunday. Dhabi Group chairman Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan and Essar Group chief executive Prashant Ruia signed an agreement here Sunday to start discussions in this regard.

July 9th, 2009 ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has forecast a 59 percent growth in cruise passenger arrivals in the 2009-10 season, WAM news agency reported Thursday. Forecasts by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which manages the emirate's tourism industry, showed about 200,000 arrivals in the season, which will run from the end of November to the beginning of May 2010, as compared to 125,200 passenger arrivals in the previous season.

June 1st, 2009 PARIS - A passenger plane belonging to Air France went missing Monday with 215 people on board, media reports said. The passenger jet, which was bound for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, lost contact with the control centre shortly after takeoff from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, news agencies reported, quoting a Paris airport spokesperson.

April 28th, 2009 ABU DHABI - With the launching of new flights between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the air traffic between the two nations has grown considerably even at a time of global slowdown. Driven by UAE's national career Etihad's growing capacity to South India and increased weekly frequencies, traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport from and to India increased by 32 percent, making India the largest market, WAM news reported.

April 28th, 2009 ABU DHABI - Fast bowler Brett Lee has been asked to join the Australian side in Abu Dhabi ahead of a possible comeback in the final games of the one-day series against Pakistan. Lee, who last played for Australia in last year's Boxing Day Test against South Africa, will fly to Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

April 27th, 2009 HYDERABAD - Infotech Enterprises, a city-based technology services and solution provider, Monday announced a healthy 32 percent growth during 2008-09 despite the slowdown and volatile currency markets. The Hyderabad company posted a turnover of Rs.889.75 crore during the year, a year-on-year growth of 32 percent.
