February 27th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Another stray tiger on the prowl is keeping Uttar Pradesh wildlife officials on tenterhooks, days after they revelled in the glory of eliminating a man-eater after a chase of nearly four months. While the Faizabad man-eater was gunned down Tuesday with the help of an expert shooter from Hyderabad, the second tiger has been located on the periphery of the thick forests of Lakhimpur-Kheri, about 200 km from the state capital.

February 7th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A young tiger which was declared a man-eater has been shot in Uttar Pradesh's Kumarganj area in Faizabad district -- but it is yet not confirmed if it has died, an official said Sunday. The tiger was shot near the Kamakhya Devi temple in Kumarganj area late Saturday evening, but it ran away into a nearby forest.

February 7th, 2009 GUWAHATI - Nine big cats have died at Assam's Kaziranga National Park in the past three months, but wildlife authorities in the state say the tigers were not victims of poachers. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, had warned about poachers on the prowl and asked for strict vigil to ensure tigers are not hunted down.

December 22nd, 2008 LUCKNOW - Forest department officials who failed to trap a two-year-old tiger in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district have been summoned here to give an explanation, an official said Tuesday. The tiger was last spotted Monday evening in Sarai Bilhari village in Barabanki, some 30 km from the state capital here.
