The roadside bombing occurred on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital city of militancy-hit North West Frontier Province.

June 1st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Four people were killed in a blast Monday in Kohat town in Pakistan's restive northwest where the military is currently engaged in a major anti-Taliban operation, a media report said. May 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - As many as 27 policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district have been suspended from service after being found guilty of extorting money, a police official said Friday. 'Six sub-inspectors and 21 constables were suspended after an inquiry found them guilty of extorting money from contractors, businessmen and shopkeepers,' Additional Superintendent of Police Mata Prasad told IANS on phone.

A suicide bomber rammed an explosives laden vehicle into a security check post in Doaba area of Hangu district, the private Express TV channel reported.

April 5th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Two simultaneous explosions killed nine policemen Sunday in Anbar province west of Baghdad, police said. A police source told the DPA that the bombs ripped though a patrol in Faluja, 70 km west of Baghdad, killing an officer and eight other policemen.

April 5th, 2009 RANCHI - Three policemen were killed and six others were injured when a minibus carrying them dashed against a tree in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand Sunday, the police said. According to the police, around 20 policemen were in the minibus, when the vehicle's driver lost control and hit a tree near Jora flyover in the district, around 170 km from Ranchi, Sunday afternoon.

March 31st, 2009 LAHORE - Salman Taseer, the governor of Pakistan's Punjab province, Tuesday announced compensation of Rs.20 lakh each for the families of the eight policemen killed in the terror attack on the Manawan training academy near here, even as 50 people have been arrested for their suspected role in the assault. This apart, the salary and other benefits would be paid till the time they would have otherwise retired, he said after attending the funeral prayers of the slain policemen.
