The rebels triggered the blast at Kalta village, located about 100 km from the steel city of Rourkela to protest against the arrest of some villagers last month by police.

September 5th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist guerrillas Saturday blew up a mobile phone tower in Malkangiri district of Orissa, police said. A large number of armed rebels came to MV-74 village in Malkanagiri and blew up the mobile tower early Saturday.

August 21st, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist rebels have threatened to blow up the residence of Orissa Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadei and kill his son, police said Friday. The letter was received at the office of Orissa Mining Corporation at Jajpur Thursday.

August 20th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoists Thursday blew up a forest range office in Orissa's Sundergarh district, police said. About 30 rebels, in two vehicles, came to the office at Tamra under the Banki police station around 2 p.m.

August 12th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - At least three Maoists were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with police in Orissa's Rayagada district, officials said. A joint team of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh police fatally shot the militants in a forested area under Chandili police station, about 45 km from the district headquarter of Rayagada, Ashish Kumar Singh, district superintendent of police, told IANS.

July 18th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist rebels have blown up a police outpost in Orissa's Kandhamal district, police said Saturday. A group of Maoists blew up the police outpost in Katingia Friday night, Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Pravin Kumar told IANS on phone.

July 12th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - A band of Maoists ransacked a forest office located inside the Sunabeda wildlife sanctuary in Orissa's Nuapada district and destroyed all government records, police said Sunday. "About ten rebels attacked the forest beat house at Sosenga revenue village, some 70 km from here (the district headquarters of Nuapada) late Saturday night, and destroyed all the official records," district Superintendent of Police Bibek Rath told IANS.

January 21st, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist rebels shot dead a village guard Thursday in Orissa’s Malkangiri district suspecting him to be a police informer, the police said. Two armed rebels dragged Mangala Khilla, 40, from home at Karkatpali village to the nearby forest where they shot him dead, a police official told IANS.
