20 held for attack on army convoy in Coimbatore

September 19th, 2009 COIMBATORE - Activists of a right wing students union staged a demonstration Coimbatore against the alleged incursions by the Chinese army into Indian territory. Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or All India Student's Council gathered in Coimbatore city headquarters with banners and placards and demanded central government to take steps to protect the country from Chinese aggression.

September 8th, 2009 BANDIPORA - An enraged mob torched two army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir after an army truck in a convoy ran over a girl on Monday. The mishap took place at Sumbal in Bandipora district, where an army truck killed the six-year old Insha Javaid.

May 11th, 2009 RAIPUR - Several policemen were missing Monday after Maoist guerrillas ambushed a convoy in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district. Some personnel could have been killed in the first attack by insurgents in the area, police said.

May 2nd, 2009 COIMBATORE - Tamil protestors on Saturday ransacked five army trucks at Neelambur area near Coimbatore, following rumours that the weapon laden trucks were meant for Sri Lankan Army. Around 80 trucks laden with weapons and other army supply was heading towards Thiruvananthapuram.

May 2nd, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - An Indian Army convoy was attacked by Tamil Tiger supporters in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city Saturday, a defence spokesman said here. Supporters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) stopped five army trucks carrying ammunition and personnel who were returning from training in Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh.

April 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - A suicide car bomber attacked a military convoy and checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan Saturday, killing at least 18 soldiers and two civilians, a senior police official said. The bomber rammed his explosives laden car into a security wall around the army post when a military convoy was passing by in Doaba town of the restive Hangu district.

April 13th, 2009 BEIRUT - Five Lebanese soldiers were killed and 11 others wounded when their convoy was ambushed in eastern Lebanon, army sources said Monday. Three soldiers died immediately in the ambush on an army convoy in the area of Riyak, in eastern Lebanon, while two others died later in a hospital from serious wounds, among them a major, the sources said.

March 19th, 2009 SANA'A - A group of South Korean government officials and relatives of victims of a suicide bombing in Yemen narrowly escaped an attack themselves Wednesday in the Middle Eastern country. A suicide bomber blew himself up on a road leading to Sana'a International Airport as the South Korean convoy passed by, police officials said.
