2 killed, 3 injured in Mysore communal clash

July 28th, 2009 MYSORE - The judicial custody of Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik, who was arrested for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year, ends today. On July 25, the Sessions Court sent him to judicial custody till today.

July 25th, 2009 MYSORE - The Sessions Court in Mysore on Saturday denied bail to the Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik and sent him to judicial custody till July 28 for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year. Mutalik, who had visited Kyathamaranahalli after the communal clashes in April, had allegedly addressed a gathering of local residents in the locality.

July 2nd, 2009 MYSORE - Three people were killed Thursday in clashes over the desecration of a mosque in this Karnataka city. The three - Zubaiullah (15), Yasir (35) and Tirupati (40) - died of stab wounds following the clash in the Udayagiri suburb of Mysore, about 140 km from the state capital Bangalore.

April 30th, 2009 GODHRA - Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Thursday clashed at a polling booth in a Gujarat village, a clash that quickly spread to nearby Godhra, a town that witnessed communal riots in 2002. The incident took place around 10 a.m.

April 6th, 2009 MYSORE - Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik was taken into preventive custody on Monday. March 15th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML) Saturday urged the Uttar pradesh Election Commission to probe the alleged role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Wednesday's communal clashes in Varanasi that claimed two lives. 'Based on the information gathered by our activists, BJP and BSP had a role in provoking riots in Varanasi,' CPI-ML state unit head Sudhakar Yadav told reporters here.

March 13th, 2009 PATNA - Armed forces marched through Bihar's Sasaram town Friday following a communal clash that injured more than 13 people. Nine shops were also looted in the clash between two communities Thursday night, police in Sasaram, 200 km from the state capital Patna, said.

March 12th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two people were killed and at least seven injured as the police opened fire on clashing groups of two communities in Varanasi town of Uttar Pradesh Wednesday, an official said here. The police opened fire to quell communal violence that broke out during Holi celebrations near the Gauriya Masjid in Bazaridiha locality under the Bhelpur police station in the heart of town, a home department spokesman said.

March 11th, 2009 LUCKNOW - One person was killed and at least seven were injured as groups of Hindus and Muslims clashed Tuesday during a religious procession in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, police said. Several vehicles and at least half a dozen shops were set on fire in the violence, which erupted when a group of Muslims taking out the Barawafat procession entered Faridpur area, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vijay Gautam told IANS on telephone.

March 11th, 2009 UJJAIN - One person was killed and 37 people including three police officers were injured in a communal clash in a Madhya Pradesh town Tuesday, police said. Indefinite curfew was imposed in Mahidpura sub-district following the clash which erupted after police stopped members of a Muslim group, returning from a religious procession, from going towards the area where Hindus were holding a religious programme, police said.

February 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - At least 10 people were injured when Hindus and Muslims clashed in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district, police said Saturday. 'The incident took place in the Srinagar Siara Bazaar locality when some members of the Ulema Council, who were returning to Azamgarh from Lucknow, allegedly shouted slogans against the Hindus,' police inspector Kamlesh Singh told IANS over phone.

February 7th, 2009 RANCHI - At least seven undertrial prisoners were injured in a clash between two criminal groups in Dhanbad jail Sunday, police said. Prisoners Sanjay Mahto and Diwakar Mahto, who were collecting weekly extortion of Rs.500 to Rs.1,000 from each prisoner, thrashed three other prisoners which led to the clash.
