12 policemen arrested in Brazil for killing five people

October 24th, 2009 RANCHI - Relatives of a criminal and other villagers mercilessly beat four Patna policemen who had come to arrest him on the outskirts of Ranchi, leading to the death of one cop while the other three are in serious condition in hospital, police said Saturday. According to police, the four policemen from Patna had arrived at Irba village, on the outskirts of Ranchi, to arrest a criminal Naushad Friday night.

October 11th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Fourteen people were killed and 64 others injured in three car bomb attacks in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi Sunday, the interior ministry said. "The latest police reports said a total of 14 people were killed and 64 others injured, including policemen, in twin car bombings and a suicide car bomb attack outside a hospital in Ramadi," an official requesting anonymity said.

October 5th, 2009 BAGHDAD - Two policemen were killed and four others injured in two separate attacks in the Iraqi capital Sunday, police said. In one incident, a bomb went off near a police vehicle on the al-Muttabag street in eastern Baghdad, killing a policeman and wounding four others.

June 27th, 2009 KANDAHAR - Taliban militants killed eight policemen in an overnight assault on a police post in southern Afghan province of Helmand, an official said Saturday. A group of Taliban militants raided a police post north of Lashkar Gha, capital of Helmand, late Friday night killing eight policemen, provincial administration spokesman Daud Ahmadi said.

June 10th, 2009 RIO DE JANEIRO - At least 41 people, including 19 police officers, have been arrested in Brazil in an operation against bands of paramilitary personnel who are vying with drug traffickers for the control of the "favelas" or the slums in Rio de Janeiro. The operation, which was still underway, has targeted for the arrest of another 25 people accused of forming a militia band known as the Justice League and operating in Rio.

June 2nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Seven policemen have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh for laxity in investigating a case in which a Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death in the state's Azamgarh district, an official said Tuesday. "The policemen were placed under suspension today (Tuesday) following the directives issued by the state police chief Vikram Singh," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters.

May 28th, 2009 NOIDA - Seven people including three policemen were killed and 11 others critically injured when a small truck ran over them on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, police said Thursday. The accident occurred late Wednesday when about a dozen policemen and some other people were trying to clear two vehicles from the expressway, that had met with an accident earlier.
