How to Save OpenOffice Documents as .doc by Default

Another annoying thing I have found in Openoffice.org documents is that, it doesn't let you save the files as .doc unless you carefully do it every time at the point of saving. By default it saves the files in its own format. So to save files always in the Microsoft Office documents format, do the following.

  • Go to Tools -> Options ->(from left menu choose) Load/Save ->General.
  • Now, from right menu, at Default file format section choose Always save as and select Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP.
  • [Note: you can choose any file format according to your need.]

So from now on every document you write on openoffice.org, will be saved as .doc
