Google Search adds ‘Related Search’ and Precision for Longer Queries

Microsoft Snatches Dell Deal from Google for Default Search Engines, At Last, At least Something!

So at last, however small it be, Microsoft tastes victory over Google in the internet market. Reportedly, they have become the default search engine on Dells entire range of computers. The three-year agreement, which kicks off in February, displaces an existing search deal that Google had with Dell.

Microsoft is hoping that the inclusion of Windows Live Search will give the software maker a foot-up in its battle to supplant Google as the number one used search engine in the world. Which is significantly smaller than what Google has at this moment.

Obama Loses to Sarah Palin in the Global Count - shows Google Zeitgeist

Google has compiled the names of this year's mega celebrities. The popularity is anything but to leave out  because its just not another list. Google says that these people were searched for throughout the year in number of billions! And here Obama loses out to Sarah Palin! Sporty people list their names with head held high in two major places. Beijing 2008 and Euro 2008. Sorry Miss Hilton and Britney, you two are not at the top unlike yahoo. At last, sigh.

Should United Sue Google for Loss of 300 Million Dollars & Reputation?

You all know now that Google News crawled an obscure reprint of an article from 2002 when United Airlines was on the brink of bankruptcy. United Airlines has since recovered but due to a missing dateline, Google News ran the story as today's news. The story was rapidly picked up by other news aggregators and eventually headlined as a news flash on Bloomberg. This triggered automated trading programs to dump UAL, cratering the stock from $12 to $3 and evaporating 1.14 billion dollars (nearly United's total market cap yesterday) in shareholder wealth. The stock recovered within the day to $10 and is now trading at $9.62, a market cap of $300M less than before Google ran the story.

This story highlights the unhealthy importance of Google on world economy. Google's action (intentional or not) can be directly attributed to over 300 million dollar loss by United and a loss of face. Should Google be sued for this mistake? Full article (331 words) »
