Some thoughts on Richard Grimes article on .NET

March 8th, 2005

I personally find the article by Richard Grimes on the state of .NET technologies very informative. It is comical to note some of the rants against him in the post and in the comments at http://weblogs.asp.net/danielfe/archive/2005/02/22/378343.aspx

Some of it are plain hilarious like:

And really, let's face it, every programming language has a problem. Yes, .Net isn't the best, compared to the others, but it is pretty good, as in easy application development. Still, it's coming up.
For me, I hate Java, and that's my opinion. Unfortunately, it has a lot of technical advantage compared to .Net, so I MUST use it. I dreadful fate.

Some comments on his encrypting the email, and so he not a believable guy! It however never occured to him when he was writing those incredible articles and book on .NET technologies.

I really pity these guys.

“Genuine microsoft windows” farce

March 6th, 2005

I went to download a script debugger from microsoft site. It told me that I can download it only if I allowed a program to verify that I am running genuine microsoft windows. I naturally allowed, wondering how it could verify it (using activex obviously) through firefox. In the next screen however I was offered an option to skip it and proceed to download directly!

What kind of joke is this?

What's up with these mapping software? Even with good old trusted mapquest I used to see that it often comes up with really stupid directions. The example by Dmitri gives a direction for travelling 204 miles when the places are 30 miles apart and with good connectivity!

MSN Search features hand-crafted results?

December 7th, 2004

My review on MSN Search elicited the following response from MSN Search's Weblog:

Angsuman Chakraborty thinks that we released the Beta too early. He also questions the veracity of our site descriptions. I want to respond to this by re-iterating that there is no human intervention in our Index; all results are based on our algorithms.

In response I posted to the same weblog: Read more (475 words) »
