Abusing Comment Name field for SEO.. No SirSeptember 9th, 2007 Sometimes I see comments where the name of the person is not really his name but a popular keyword which obviously links to his website. While I understand the need to have link-love for useful comments and even encourage it, the name field shouldn't be abused by using keywords like "Web Banner Design", for example.
Back to the drawing board on category feedsMarch 18th, 2005 Few days back I moved to providing categorized feed for JavaBlogs and Artima. However I realized two big problems with this approach which questions the viability as of now.

How To Improve Performance of Highly Commented WordPress BlogsApril 26th, 2006 Most of highly trafficked and highly commented wordpress blogs rely upon some smart caching solution or another. However it may not be enough to prevent slowing down your server if your post(s) are heavily commented upon.

[...] (I looked at the source html for his site, and was disappointed, but not surprised, to see the link back to my site was tagged as “nofollow”. All that means is that Google won’t give me credit for the link when it evaluates my PageRank. I speculated on the potential for abuse in the trackback system previously, and apparently the “nofollow” tag is the answer. My WordPress blog automatically inserts the nofollow tag in all external links in the comment and the commenter’s supplied website, and I would have to load a plugin to stop it. In short, it seems I can’t rely on trackbacks to sprinkle links throughout the Web and therefore increase my PageRank. But trackbacks could pull people here, and it they like my blog they can link here themselves. Tough, but fair.) [...]

Good catch. For me it is a tradeoff. This blog is in the proceess of overhauling. At one time it was consuming lots of CPU, so I indiscriminately disabled a bunch of plugins hoping to speed up. Then I switched to wp-cache 2. It has its own share of problems. Anyway I am designing a new theme for this blog where I intend to re-enable this plugin again. But you know how it goes… it keeps getting delayed due to other commitments. I wish I had 48 hour day
February 27th, 2006 at 1:21 am
I personally believe that anyone who goes out of their way to partake in the discussion on your site, or any other site, should indeed be able to link there. Especially if they return a link via a bookmark or url on their page.

February 27th, 2006 at 1:32 am
@Mark
I allow linkbacks with the exception of spammy / MFA / content-less sites. Unfortunately your site falls under content-less sites. Also your comment is irrelevant to the context.
Linkback is a privilege, not a right.

Really nice plugin, I am in the process of finishing up my re-re-redesign of my site and really believe, as you do, that you allow a follow link. With that said, I had came across some sites with an “I follow” banner, but can’t seem to find a good one now, I found some others that are not all that great, wondering if you had a preference? And with that, what on your thoughts on having one in the first place? Should we have one?
Thanks.

I would agree not following links defeats the idea of a free Internet. Google hepped creat link spam by implementing their version of pagerank. Now because of link spam geared to pagerank, we are seeing no-follow tags. I really think now with search and the monetization of search and ads that we are seeing \”the tail wagging the dog\” here.

This means that the search engines wouldn’t follow the URL’s listed and hence a commenter wouldn’t get the benefit of commenting on this site by way of increasing their (websites) search engine rank (like Google rank). This is supposed to act as disincentive to comment spammers.
Thanks man

Hallo,
I am very bored of reading spam comments on blogs. Ich bin sehr gelangweilt des Lesens Spam-Kommentare in Blogs. Maybe they make these spams automaticly. Vielleicht machen sie diese Spams automatisch. The owners of the blogs must check all the comments to get rid of spam comments. Die Eigentümer des Blogs zu prüfen, alle Kommentare loswerden Spam-Kommentare. Or making the links nofollow is another solution. Oder machen die Links nofollow ist eine andere Lösung.

The project’s official name is “JVM Language Runtime”, rather than “Java Language Runtime”, and it’s intended to target *all* varieties of languages for the JVM. And yes, the name is a direct nod to the DLR (Dynamic Language Runtime) for the CLR, which is both a good idea and a good name. But we’d like to be all-inclusive, providing tools and frameworks for all varieties of languages. And rather than starting right away building a common base all languges must conform to, we’ll generalize existing solutions to common JVM language implementation challenges, drawing from the large existing base of already-implemented languages for the JVM.

You guys are right. Im a designer and I just got flash trained and fell in love with it. I want to move forward and become a flash developer but have not been able to find any classes that are more than just seminars. Im teaching myself Actionscript 3.0 and making progress, but I want to dive harder. Be at that level where the whole world of it opens up to me.
I want a fill those spaces your talking about. Anyone have any suggestions of how I can get this done faster?
It just feels right.
