briefcase-iconIf you have been working with Microsoft Windows since Windows 95 you have probably seen or perhaps even used the Briefcase Features. Initially its utility was to synchronize files between two computers. Actually it works as a special folder which supports two way file sync with another folder on a local disk or external USB/Firewire drive and network drive. I sometimes used it to copy movies from scratched CDs as it retained even partly copied files. However, with the advancement of computing technology, this feature is left mostly unused in Vista and Windows 7 and also the basic syncing features are also not sufficient for modern file safeguarding needs. The briefcase features is only retained to provide some backward compatibility to the users who are too familiar with it. But if you do not need the New Briefcase option in the right click menu, here is how to get rid of it.

To remove or delete Briefcase from the list of 'New' menu items :
1. Run Registry Editor. You can do it by typing 'regedit' in the command line or in the Run option in the start menu.
2. Navigate to the Follwing Key : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Briefcase
3. Under the Briefcase registry delete the subkey named 'ShellNew'
Now, the briefcase menu will disappear from the new list.

You can also do the same by downloading the Disable-NewBriefcase.reg which automatically deletes the Briefcase option from right click submenu of 'New' Option.
