‘Culled’ means ‘killed’ - but it means that they were killed for a specific reason, i.e., because they could have infected other birds and potentially people. It’s not as if there’s a cover-up or anything…

I am not saying it is a cover-up. It just feels heartless and euphemeric. cull doesn’t always mean kill (see below).
cull: To remove a cow from the herd. Culling reasons in clued voluntary culling of cows for low milk production, or involuntary culling of cows for reasons of health or injury. Source
It also means:
To sell or eliminate from a flock. Source
Any item of production picked out for rejection because it does not meet certain specifications. Chip culls and utility culls are specifically defined for purposes of log grading by percentage of sound wood content. Source
As you can cull doesn’t always and unequivocally mean kill.

I think they should call it what it is. The word cull though it does not always mean the killing of, in most instances this is just what’s happening. World wide millions of chickens have been killed, and it should be acknowledged. It’s wrong what’s happening to the chickens.
Also I am really starting to wonder is there is not a secondary reason for killing the chickens? Is Avian Flu the real reason or will we later find out where was a cover up and they were killed and destroyed for another reason?
For all we know all the crap they feed chickens now to keep them healthy could have been corrupted and this large destroying of chickens could have something to do with that, or it could just be to cause financial harship in the industry. Let’s look at who is profiting from this over blown scare and more importatly who is losing out.
I would like to believe they really are putting this much effort into this bird flu epidemic scare for the peoples good, but the more I read, I am starting to wonder.
