What is Your Blood Type? I Am B+; Apparently It Sucks To Be B in Korea
I was very amused to learn that south-asians like Koreans and Japanese make a great deal out of blood types. Apparently B types are bad boys, yeah! Wait, it gets worse.
In south-Asia (India excluded), the subject of linking blood types to personality took off with the 1927 publication of a series of articles by Japanese scholar Takeji Furukawa called "The Study of Temperament Through Blood Type."
The concept hit pop culture and mass media in 1971 when Japanese writer Masahiko Nomi expanded upon Furukawa's ideas and wrote "Understanding Compatibility from Blood Types."
Type-O people were described as outgoing, expressive and passionate. Type-A were considered introverted perfectionists while type-AB were an unpredictable, distant lot.
And then there was type-B. They were considered independent spirits with strong personalities. That exactly matches my personality
However the cultural stereotypes projected are much worse. There are many characteristics associated with type-B people, but the bad rap going around about type-B men in Korea is that they are selfish, mercurial and absolutely useless as caring and devoted boyfriends. Personally I am not selfish even by the most restrictive definition of the term, but I don't know the part about "caring and devoted boyfriends" because I never (this is not a typo) ventured into dating scene.
According to a nationwide survey in South Korea conducted by Internet portal site xyinlove.co.kr, type-B men were considered to be the most difficult type to date and about 40 percent of women said they did not want to marry a type-B man. Source
So if you are in Korea and you are type B and you intend on dating Korean women then be sure not to reveal your blood type or better yet say A (all is fair in love and war). I wonder if they will go as far as requiring to see your blood test report before saying "Yes" to your bended knee proposal.

First I’ve heard of this .. (I’m B+ ,BTW) .. Personally I consider a blood type that so optimistcally says “be positive” to be a quality worth cherising
- But I suppose I’ll need to keep that to myself if I ever go searching for love in Korea !

Hi
I am really interested in this Blood Type theory, compatibility etc. I am an O but am married to an AB so my children (2) will be A or B (they are to be tested soon). I have had an increasingly difficult time in my marriage and for some time I’ve thought that my children are just different from me - thinking it was my parental skills that were letting me down. I wonder how much Blood Type differences can explain maritial and other domestic problems. Do you know if there has been any research done on this. If not, I might just start…

I am B+ (man), going to marry B- (Woman).
Does it make any problems in the near future specially for my Childs?

The only potential problem you might run into is the rhesus positive vs. rhesus negative thing during pregnancy. But since it’ll hardly be the first time it’s happened in the history of mankind, your doctor’ll be able to take care of that as a matter of course.

Are you serious?! Wow, so it’s true then for type B men in Korea like their movie, huh? But what about if you’re a female (which I am) in Korea or any other country? Would you be treated alike?

Uhm… Koreans and the Japanese are not considered \”south-asians\”

Chillax, dude. Culture and social phenomena aren’t that easy to pin down. Your analysis, while interesting, is at best limited in understanding and doesn’t allow enough leeway for cultural considerations. Not too many people subscribe to this anyway, so just chill.

The piece was written in amusement. I am not really concerned because:
1. I am not in the (marriage) market
2. I am not a Korean

I believe the korean blood thing only works with koreans… not sure about japanese. i think our blood is “pure” (not racist, just trying to explain) and ive been able to guess all my close korean friends blood type however… it does not seem to work on white or blacks or south east asians ne whooo im korean too so it was just my observation

That’s cool. So being an Indian I don’t suck even though my blood type is B+

Just “B positive” Angsuman. Ok j/k.
Ran across your article when researching what it meant to have B+ blood. (Mine’s B+ too.) Interesting to learn this about other cultures.
