Naukri is one of the leading Indian job posting sites. While exploring the option of posting few jobs there I realized something strange and potentially unethical practice.

When you go to naukri.com you will notice the left side column is titled - Top Employers. To most of us that means that this employers have surpassed employee expectations in some measurable way to get this honor.

In the center column you will find companies listed under - Best places to work. I thought that this indicated selection based on some employee satisfaction survey or some evaluation identifying them as best places to work.

Sadly, when I tried to post jobs there, I realized that the above mentioned titles solely indicate how much the employers are paying Naukri to get their jobs listed! They do not indicate in any way what they should have indicated.

"Best places to work" means that the employer has forked out at least 1500 $ or Rs. 66,120.00 to get their jobs listed on naukri.

"Top Employers" indicates that the employer has forked out at least 6000 $ (USD) or Rs. 275,500.00!

This appears unethical to me because it seriously misleads potential employees about the status of employers.

BTW: Note that you pay much more in Indian currency (Rs.) than with USD. Why?

I have refrained from posting on Naukri because of their misleading practices.

PS. As many of you know we maintain a computer industry jobs blog too, which primarily focusses on US based jobs. Unlike Naukri we don't charge employers (nor employees). Neither do we differentiate between different employers. The other day we posted a job from Hugh Sloan. His posting didn't receive any special treatment from us, even though I would have loved to shout to anyone I know - go get it man!
